In our reading for today (2 Thessalonians 2), I was encouraged by Paul's exhortation for us to stand firm and hold to the truth. I'm sure it was difficult for the Thessalonians and it can be difficult for us in the midst of a changing political environment, a down economy, fighting two wars, a loss of income and jobs, increasing costs, etc. There is just a lot of uncertainty right now in our nation and in our world. But as God exhorts us through Paul, we can stand firm on Jesus Christ and His truth.
Our hope, as always, comes from Christ - not politics or the economy or anything else. The ultimate answer to the woes of this world will come in the person of Jesus when He invades our space for the second time.
And in the meantime, we must stand firm and cling to the truth.
So, so true, it reminds me of a message that Chris did some time ago... He said if he was on his death bed there would be 5 words that he would share with his wife. "I love you, stand firm!"
ReplyDeleteTo me it is easy to stand firm when all is going well. But it is when it feels like everything is falling down around me, marriage, kids, work, etc. That is when I see for myself how strong my faith is, how sure am I on what is true, and what isn't, how close am I willing to get to God, and draw my strength from Him?
These last couple of weeks I've been tested, convicted, challenged, and humbled. Turns out, it's for my own good! God loves me enough that he wants to use my life, my circumstances, and my walk with him to grow me and others around me to use for His Honor, His Glory, and His Purpose.
What a great message "Standing Firm" one of the greatest things that we can do in our lives.
So, when it feels like there is no hope, when it feels like God has left me, when I can't change what is going on around me. I try to remember to "Stand Firm"
God has always been, and always will be standing right there with me!
