Proverbs 4

14 Do not set foot on the path of the wicked
or walk in the way of evil men.

15 Avoid it, do not travel on it;
turn from it and go on your way.

A good reminder that I need to be proactive in avoiding evil. Doing evil is a choice and I can either choose to engage in evil or to turn from evil. It reminds me of one of the first verses I ever memorized:

2 Timothy 2:22 -
Flee the evil desires of youth, and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.

God, give me the sense to flee evil today.

  1. Prov 4 starts out with Solomon telling his sons how his father (David) taught him to obey his command and seek wisdom (v4-9). Then, Solomon proceeds to teach the same to his own sons.

    I don't know about you, but my dad never did this for me. I now have an opportunity to do it for my kids so that when they have kids, they too can say "grandpa taught me to ... and now I'm going to teach you the same".

  2. Prov. 4:25 says - Let your eyes look straight ahead, fix your gaze directly before you.

    This verse reminded me of another... Heb. 12:1 says ... And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.

    God's word tells us our life is like a race, and God has marked out a custom-made course for each of us to run. It is easy to get caught up in the circumstances of our lives and to look to the right and left, looking at the course God has for others and start to compare our "race" to the other "races" around us, and thinking that some how, that those races would be a better one than the one God has us in right now! May we look straight forward…. running to God and running the race to get the prize!
