Proverbs 25

28 Like a city whose walls are broken down
is a man who lacks self-control.

Without walls a city is unprotected and chaos prevails. In my life, self-control leads to stability and order. Without self-control, my flesh will overrun my life. Without self-control, self-discipline is impossible. Self-control is absolutely necessary in a life live for and with God.

I have had to use self-control this week to engage with God - to read His Word, to pray and to memorize Ephesians 4:29. To be honest, most days those were not MY first choices, but they were my best choices.

  1. I was also struck by the power of verse 28. If I am a city with broken down walls, then I am doomed to failure at the first attack. That's not helpful to God's kingdom. He needs us self-controlled, self-disciplined, and ready for what's going to be thrown at us.
