Sabbath Rest: Spiritual

As spiritual beings, we need spiritual rest. We find spiritual rest when we "power down" and come to the conclusion that it's not about us but rather it's about God. That it's not about what I can do for myself but it's what about what God wants to do for me on the Sabbath. That He is the Provider - period.

Jesus said that the Sabbath was made for man. That God intended the Sabbath to benefit us and as spiritual beings we need to find rest our souls in the simplicity of who God is - our Provider.

God wants us to slow down enough every seven days and ask ourselves some questions: What am I exchanging my life for? Is there a good return on the investment that I have made with the last six days of my life?

Jesus once asked these questions:
Mark 8:36-37 (NIV) What good is it for a man to gain the whole world, yet forfeit his soul? Or what can a man give in exchange for his soul?

Good questions to ask ourselves every seven days as we search for spiritual rest.

  1. Trying to get my arms around what I can exchange my soul for and it seems too huge to grasp. I've tried to think at the end of each day, what did I do for God today worth my soul and I end up at a loss for words. And while I can't imagine what my soul is worth, God already knows what it's worth and he still provides for me, even the Sabbath, I'm so AMAZED by it all. I look forward to growing in my relationship with the Lord each and every day.

  2. Thanks for taking the time to share your "Sabbath thoughts". It seems so much of our journey is to be willing to simply ask questions and to engage with God in areas that are important to Him.
