The Code: Misusing God

"You shall not misuse the name of the Lord" (Exodus 20:7). This third commandment isn’t just a warning to not use God’s name in anger, but it is intended to prevent God’s people from intentionally attaching His name to purposes that are not His. Because God’s name represents Him, it has tremendous power and we can be tempted to use His name to advance our own agendas. The danger is that when we misuse the name of God, we are in danger of missing God.
